Portable basketball hoops allow you to play nearly anywhere.
Don't be denied the enjoyment of playing a friendly game of basketball because you can't install a permanent basketball hoop -- install a portable hoop, instead. Portable basketball hoops sit on a base that allows you to reposition or move it at will. Unlike their permanent counterparts, they require anchoring to ensure they do not blow over in wind or pull over during a semi-aggressive slam-dunk competition. Manufacturers designed bases that allow you to anchor the hoop with weight, rather than multiple ground anchors.1.
Position the portable basketball hoop near the area it will sit in when anchored. Most portable systems have two wheels located near the front of the base. Tilting it onto the wheels allows you to move it easier over hard surfaces.2.
Remove the fill plug from the base by turning it counterclockwise either by hand or with a pair of pliers. Each manufacturer positions the fill plug in a different location, but it is always on top of the base. The recessed plug will have a straight flange across its face that allows you to turn and remove it.3.
Fill the base. You can use water from a garden hose or fill it with sand using a funnel. When using sand, stop pouring and tilt the base to force sand forward. Continue adding sand until the base is filled.4.
Thread the fill plug into the fill hole. Tighten the plug by hand to allow for easier removal when you need to empty the base.5.
Set the portable basketball hoop in its final position, with the back of the base sitting on soft ground. Place the tip of a spiral ground anchor on the soft ground, one to two inches behind the back of the base. Push the end of a flathead screwdriver into the anchor's top hook. Turn the anchor clockwise to thread it into the ground. Stop turning when the last spiral of the anchor sits below the surface of the ground. Hook the anchor strap -- connected to the base -- over the anchor eyelet.
